This trial will involve hospitalized HIV-1 infected children who are randomized to either emergent ART (<48 hours) versus ART within 10-14 days, in order to determine the potential benefit of emergent initiation of ART in the context of a severe co-infection. This study will compare incidence mortality, IRIS and drug toxicity between arms and will determine cofactors for these outcomes.
