  • The Office of Minority Health and Health Equity (OMHHE) supports internship opportunities for qualified undergraduate students to gain meaningful experiences in public health settings.   • This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) issued by the National Institute of Mental Health encourages Research Education Grant (R25) applications from Institutions/Organizations that propose to develop, implement, and evaluate creative and innovative research education mentoring programs that will facilitate the development of a cadre of investigators in requisite scientific research areas to advance the mental health-related objectives of the Office of AIDS Research (OAR) Annual Strategic Plan and program priorities of the NIMH Division of AIDS Research (DAR). This funding opportunity encourages applications proposing mentoring programs that include either a special institute (with didactic and research components) or a national mentoring network. Participants are limited to undergraduates, graduate/medical students, medical residents, postdoctoral fellows, and/or early-career faculty.  These mentoring programs are expected to enhance the professional development of the participating individuals and foster their career trajectory towards independent research in the mental health of HIV/AIDS.

  • The NIH Fogarty-funded Northern/Pacific Global Health Research Fellows Training Consortium offers mentored clinical research training experiences in low– and middle–income countries to post-doctorate and doctoral students in the health professions. The purpose of the program is to provide outstanding mentored research training to post-doctorate trainees and doctoral students at six international partner institutions with robust clinical research programs. Opportunities for an 11-month fellowship through the University of Washington are available in Ghana, Kenya, Peru, Uganda and Thailand. Click here for more. Deadline December 3, 2012.

  • Prosthetics Outreach Foundation (POF) is seeking Marketing Interns for the Fall 2012, Winter 2013 and Spring 2013 Quarters. POF is an international nonprofit organization headquartered in Seattle, WA with programs in Asia, West Africa and the Caribbean. We seek to provide mobility to amputees and children and adults with limb deformities in developing countries to help them live healthy, productive lives. We emphasize building local capacity in developing countries by training medical personnel in prosthetics, orthopedic surgery and clubfoot treatment. Our goals are to treat the greatest number of physically disabled children and adults, and to sustain the delivery of quality orthopedic services with limited local resources to the greatest extent possible. Positions will remain open until filled.

  • November 5 is the commencement of the L'Oréal USA Fellowships For Women In Science 2013 Fellowship Program.  The applications will be available at www.lorealusa.com under the For Women In Science/US Fellowship tab.  The program is entering its tenth year and since its launch in 2003, L'Oréal USA's Fellowship program has recognized and rewarded 45 extraordinarily talented young women scientists engaged in breakthrough research projects at leading universities and research institutions across the country. The L'Oréal USA Fellowships For Women In Science awards five post-doctoral women scientists with grants of up to $60,000. Applicants are welcome from a variety of fields, including the life and physical/material sciences, technology (including computer science), engineering and mathematics

  • The Department of Global Health, in collaboration with the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation and Health Alliance International, have developed a PhD program in Global Health that is the first of its kind, building on the expertise of our faculty in the areas of metrics and implementation science. The PhD program provides students with the latest and most innovative tools to advance global health solutions that are critical for decision-making and priority setting.

  • The Global Health Corps is seeking 5 creative, well-organized, hard-working interns to support the programming and operations of hte 2012-2013 Fellowship. Interns will work closely with the CEO, Vice President of Operations, Vice President of Programs Associate and regional Program Managers, and will gain a first-hand understanding of the day to day programming and operations of a young entrepreneurial non-profit.

  • DegreedUP.com is proud to renew up to four $1,250 cash scholarships for the 2012 | 2013 college year. Any student that attends a university, community college or technical college may apply. A student must be accepted or attending the college in order to apply for the scholarship. Also, up to the first fifteen applicants of each deadline month (see below) will receive one free product (not to exceed $50 U.S. dollars) of their choice from the DegreedUP.com store. The scholarship hopes to advance the goal of obtaining a college education which is in line with the slogan of the website, “Promoting Getting a College Education”.

  • New Scholar awards provide support for newly independent investigators beginning in the first 3 years after their postdoctoral training, when they are establishing their own labs and their careers are at a vulnerable stage. These awards contribute to a safety net that allows bright young scientists to staff their laboratories, collect preliminary data, and organize research programs of sufficient momentum to obtain ongoing support from other sources. New Scholar awards provide funding up to $100,000 per year for a four year period. New Scholar candidates are investigators who are nominated by U.S. medical institutions and universities for their outstanding promise in aging research. Invited institutions may nominate two candidates. Prospective candidates are encouraged to consult this website for more information about the goals and objectives of the Aging Program and eligibility requirements under Application Procedures. Depending upon the number of nominations submitted and the qualifications of the nominees, up to 25 scholars will be selected.

  • Entering its sixth year, the Global Studies Conference meets annually to discuss the dynamics of globalization in today's world. The Global Studies Conference serves as an open forum for exploring globalization from many perspectives. As the center of one of the emerging BRICS economies, New Delhi is a relevant and ideal location to discuss India's role in globalization. Proposals for paper presentations, workshops, or colloquia are invited for the Sixth Global Studies Conference, to be held 5-7 September 2013 in New Delhi, India. We welcome proposals from a variety of disciplines and perspectives that will contribute to the conference discourse. We also encourage faculty and students to jointly submit proposals or panel discussions/colloquia.

  • Infrastructure awards are designed to build capacity for UW international HIV research activities. The awards generally benefit multiple studies and/or investigators within a single research site. They can be used to renovate facilities and purchase supplies and equipment that contribute to the execution, efficiency and development of research projects. Direct costs: Up to $10,000 per project. Per revised NIH guidelines, funding for minor alterations and renovations at international sites is now allowable. Funding cannot be applied to new construction, indirect costs/F&A, salary support or study computers.

  • This FOA will support highly innovative R01 applications on HIV/AIDS and drug abuse and will complement the Avant-Garde program. The Avant-Garde award http://ww2.drugabuse.gov/about/organization/arp/AVGP.htm supports individuals who conduct high-risk, high-payoff research and does not require a detailed research plan. This FOA focuses on innovative research projects that have the potential to open new areas of HIV/AIDS research and/or lead to new avenues for prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS among drug abusers.  Applications submitted under this FOA are required to have a detailed research plan and preliminary data.  This FOA is open to both individual researchers and research teams and is not limited to any one area of research.

  • A program of the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program offers intensive summer language institutes in thirteen critical foreign languages for summer 2013. The selection process is administered by American Councils for International Education with awards approved by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
